Senior Officials and Ministers from both continents and from the European Commission took part in the discussions. |

19/06/09: The group of African and European experts in charge of the Energy Partnership met on 18 and 19 June in Brussels under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Aboubakari Baba-Moussa, Director of Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union Commission and Mr. Rajcoomar Bikoo, Director at the Ministry of Renewable Energy and Public Utilities in Mauritius, on the African side, and Mr. Franz Marr, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Mr. Wolfgang Moser, the Austrian Ministry for Development Cooperation, on the European side. The agenda included the finalization of the roadmap for the Partnership as well as discussions on its implementation, the organization of a high-level meeting in the Netherlands in October 2009 and the organization of a partnership forum with the participation of civil society organizations and the private sector and research institutions in 2010. |

On the same day, the European Commission adopted a Communication on strengthening cooperation between Europe and Africa in the field of transport. |

25/05/09: Africa Day was marked in Bucharest by various events at the initiative of FOND, the Federation of Romanian Development NGOs and the FDSC, the Foundation for the development of civil society. A seminar on relations between Africa and the EU, and Romania in particular, took place in the morning with the participation of the Ambassador of Algeria, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and an NGO active in Africa. In attendance, the presence of several African Ambassadors was noted, as well as members of Romanian NGOs, the African diaspora and Romanian students. A cultural evening, with exhibition of photographs and crafts, music and a film screening closed the day with success. |

25/05/09: The African day was celebrated at the Headquarter of the African Union on May 25 in Addis Ababa. It was marked by several allocutions and several cultural activities. Participants at the ceremony including the staff of the African Union Commission, ate assorted African dishes and listen to a variety of African music. The Day was observed this year under the theme: "Towards A United, Peaceful and Prosperous Africa". |

25/05/09: On the occasion of the Europe day, the musical Czech group Spiritual Kvintet performed on May 9 in the compound of the African union in Addis Ababa. The event was jointly organized by the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Union Delegation to the African Union in Addis. Spiritual Kvintet has been performing for 49 years Folk, Spiritual and Gospel songs. |

25/05/09: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) Dr. Jean Ping, today, Wednesday 29 April 2009 inaugurated the Satellite Receiving Station of the AU- African monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable development (AU-AMESD).
AMESD Programme is funded through the European Development Fund for 21 millions euros. The project is a first concrete action in the field of environment within the framework of the Africa – European Union strategic partnership.
AMESD programme would contribute to improving the lives and prospects of over 350 millions people in 46 African countries currently enduring poverty and hardship, and whose livelihoods depend heavily on their environment. |

25/05/09: On 3rd April 2009, AU Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture Mrs Rhoda Peace Tumusiime and EU Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture Mrs Androulla Vassiliou cojointly launched in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the implementation of the programme "Better Training for Safer Food Africa (BTSF Africa)". Through BTSF-Africa, over the next two years, ? 10 million Euros will be used to fund capacity building activities. |

For the first time, the Joint Africa-EU Task Force met in enlarged format, beyond the regular participation of the African Union and European Commissions staff, to also involve AU and EU Presidencies, co-Chairs of Joint Expert Groups, as well as of observers from the Pan-African and European Parliaments, and from Civil Society from both continents. |
